If you’re thinking about buying in Riverdale, I get it — this place has a pull. I don’t live here anymore, but it’s where I built one of my most meaningful chapters. After my divorce I found myself with a young Max on Hampton Avenue and later, Sparkhall. My son went to both Frankland PS (JK) and Withrow PS (SK – Grade 6 French Immersion). We walked to school, to parks, to ice cream, to the gym, to daycare, to coffee shops, to everything. Honestly? This might be my all-time favourite neighbourhood in the city.
The Real Estate Scoop
Riverdale real estate? It’s a bit of a dream. Grand Edwardians, restored Victorians, leafy side streets, and a very beautiful church-turned-loft on Pape. It’s also a hot spot for families thanks to top-ranked TDSB schools, massive parks, and actual community vibes. Homes here aren’t cheap—but if you’re looking for charm, space, and that elusive feeling of “this is it,” Riverdale delivers. Big time. It’s also perfect for professionals for the easy commute downtown.
The Neighbourhood
Riverdale is East Toronto at its finest. It’s got personality, pride, and some of the best damn skyline views in the city (fight me). You’ve got Riverdale Park East for lazy Sunday picnics, Withrow Park for playgrounds & the best sledding hill in town, and streets that still feel like neighbourhoods—not just places to pass through.
And then there’s the Danforth. Welcome to Greektown, where the food hits hard and the community runs deep. Whether you’re after a date-night restaurant, a laid-back pub, or a quick gyro, it’s all here. Bonus: in the summer, the Taste of the Danforth street festival takes over—and suddenly you’re dancing with strangers and eating spanakopita on the sidewalk like it’s a sport.
My go-to favourites? Easy. Big Carrot for organic groceries & a really good hot lunch bar. Rooster Coffee for morning fuel. Meza when I want the good stuff. Riverdale Perk for their delicious sandwiches & bowls. Withrow Park for people-watching & the dog park. And Riverdale Park East for the sunsets—always.
